UNIFORM CARE

Regulations – what and how to wear, badges – Blue and green.

FUNCTIONAL APPROACH
This is when the best leader is selected to lead a group of people to complete a given task. They need not be the best at the given task but they can get the best out of the group. They do this by organising the group and letting each person within the group to complete their part of the task. Ideally they should have knowledge of the task, so that they can set realistic targets.
Any task can be broken down into 3 basic areas called needs; these are the Task Needs, Team Needs, and Individual Needs.
Task Needs can be defined as – Define the task, Making / Adjusting the plan, Allocating work / resources, Controlling quality / tempo, Comparing progress.
Team Needs can be defined as – Set standards, Instilling and maintaining discipline, Building team spirit, Motivating / praising, Training, Ensuring communication within group, Appointing sub-leaders.
Individual Needs can be defined as – Attend to personal problems, Praising individuals, Give status, Recognise and use individual abilities, Train the individual.
The leader must maintain a balance between all the above topics if the Task is to be completed. Sometimes one of the Needs will need more of the leaders time than the other two. A good Leader will be able to foresee when to give more time to one of the Needs to keep the Needs in balance.

ACTIVITY ORGANISATION

Think of the activity that you would like to do, check if it is an official ATC activity, do you need a qualified instructor, check availability of location, check cost of activity, do you need to pay in advance, transport, equipment, parent permission, minimum time scale before activity – thinking of it 3 months, permission to go 2 months, final numbers and money 10 days.

DRILL

Knowledge (movement and timing), correction, repartitions.
