One Friday in April, 13 cadets along with the CO and Sgt Lee visited 27 Squadron based at RAF Odiham.  On arrival we were shown around the inside of a Chinook by a Crewman from 27 Squadron who also answered our questions on the aircraft.  We were joined by 2407 (Yatley) Sqn. and after watching a number of videos on 27 Squadron’s recent deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan we all went to stores to get ‘kitted up’.  After being issued helmets we walked out to the flight line and boarded a Chinook.  We were taken on a 10-minute flight around the local area- often at quite low level!  Many of us were surprised by the maneuverability of the Chinook and it was some cadets’ first flight with the air cadets.  The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all, even if some came off a little greener than when they took off!
