On a cold weekend in December 25 cadets and 5 staff deployed
to Pirbright, Stoney Castle Pavilion
Arriving on Friday evening the cadets erected there sleeping
quarters (2 x 12by12 and 1 x 9by9 tent) and several 3 man tents for the
girls. Reveille was at 06.00 and the cadets awoke to a heavy ground frost
and water in their water bottle frozen, braving the temperature the
cadets wrapped up and cooked their breakfast. After Breakfast a kit
inspection was held, then a few lessons on how to survive (what kit, how to
light fires and how to set traps)
Saturday Evening Dinner was cooked by the staff (with a
little cadet stirrer to help), fried Pheasant with Carrots, Swede, Onions,
Leeks and Taste the different potatoes, using the squadrons gas BBQ
After dinner there was a few short exercises made all the
more real by the sound of Blanks etc from the adjacent Training area, having
learnt how to build shelters the cadets braved the elements and Bashered out
Sunday morning was as cold as the one before and again the
cadets wrapped up and cooked there rations with more lessons and small
exercises the cadets enjoyed the day, with a final exercise though the old
trench system
